Mercedes-Benz Belts & Hoses FAQ

When Should the Belts and Hoses in a Mercedes-Benz be Replaced?

When you see signs they're going bad, or when you hit the mileage and year benchmarks in your owner's manual's maintenance schedule. For instance, the serpentine belt, you should replace every 90,000 miles. The timing belt, for another example, you should change every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. The hoses, you swap out every 4 years, and so on. The exception: the timing chain, if your car or SUV has one; you may not need to change it at all during your engine's lifetime (unless it breaks).

What are the Symptoms of Belt and Hose Failure?

Obvious looseness or damage, battery and lighting trouble, screeching or chirping noises, engine misfires and overheats, and fluid leaks. Notice any, and you should run a complete inspection to get a better idea of what's going on, replacing parts as needed.

How Much Does Mercedes-Benz Belt & Hose Replacement Cost on Average?

That depends on the belt or hose, on the model you drive, and on whether you have the job done at a service center. Serpentine belts, according to RepairPal, can run $120 to $145 or more; brake hoses, a couple hundred dollars; other belts and hoses, more than that, usually. Fuel hoses, for example, can run $500 plus, while radiator hoses may run $540 to more than $620, timing belts might run upwards of $1,100, and so on.
